Who are we and what are we on about?

Who are we and what are we trying to achieve? A very good question. Not only because our credibility rests on our reputation, know-how and experience. But also because that question forces us to think hard about the answer and what we want to say in response. What is it that we’re trying to do here as a new CrossFit affiliate? Hasn’t it all been done in Cairns before? Why put ourselves through all the stress of starting something like this from scratch? We’ve done it before. We know what’s coming.

We ask ourselves these questions and our answers commonly include the following;

  • we’re helping to build the CrossFit Community in Cairns

  • we want to help people build the best versions of themselves they can

  • we’re doing our bit to fight the effects of chronic disease in our community

  • we think CrossFit is the key to winning at life!

  • we get a kick out of people getting their first pull-up

All these responses are legit. We could definitely add a few more too. But you get the gist. The most important question though is about why we think this whole exercise is worth it? The answer is a little hokey I’m afraid. No great pearls of wisdom here. It’s just this one thing.

You see, the entire team at CrossFit Kantok has some kind of sporting or athletic background (my wonderful wife actually went up against the legendary Cathy Freeman in her youth!). But more than that … we’ve all actually been competitive sports people or athletes at one time or another in our lives. Those were halcyon days indeed. We were never fitter … until CrossFit! We’ve all compared what we can do now with what we did then. In many ways we’re fitter now than we were then. How does that happen? CrossFit.

It’s true. This stuff works. We’ve seen it work with so many member athletes that we’ve proven to ourselves time and again that elite fitness is for anyone. Take the program and work it for all its worth, and then witness the best shape of your life as an inevitability, not just a possibility. That being the case, why wouldn’t we want to share that knowledge and give people the opportunity to live and love their best lives? That’s why were doing this. We want all the good feels when we see that first pull-up as much as the puller-upperer wants it!

We’ve spotted some gaps in our CrossFit community that we think we can fill. We think those gaps should be sealed up. And that’s what we’re doing here. Right now we’re busy manifesting this intent. Stick with us on this journey and perhaps you’ll want to make it yours too.
